My husband and I are getting together our financing and looking for a new home, so I made an altar which sits on our kitchen table to help out.
What you're seeing in the picture:
* My grandpa - He was a master carpenter and mason. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of watching him build additions on to my grandparents' home. He understood about structural integrity, and I believe he'd go out of his way on the spirit plane to make sure we find a house which is free of physical ailments. At the same time, he'd encourage us to do things that we can do ourselves to make a place better, as he always believed that people should have such practical skills and use them.
* Hestia (on the right) - She is our household goddess. She looks after our home security and domestic affairs. She can help discern whether a home is suitable for us on these levels, and her input is important, as it is not a small affair to move Hestia's place from one home to another.
* Lakshmi (on the left) - She is our goddess of finances. We are asking her for assistance in getting an appropriate and helpful mortgage so that we can afford the right place.
* Large brown candle - represents the home. My husband I both carved words into the candle like "studio space" and "entertaining" before rubbing the candle with cinnamon oil for luck and well-being.
* Green candle for Lakshmi, white candle for Grandpa and red candle for Hestia.
* The green altar paper is sparkly and beautiful. On it I stuck stickers that say things like: "Home Sweet Home," "Home at Last," "Sold," and there is also a key sticker.
I am replacing the candles for Lakshmi, Grandpa and Hestia every night and relighting the home candle every night. I put some dirt from a place I wanted very badly in the brown candle on Sunday, and the next day (after well over 200 days on the market), someone else made an offer on the house that was accepted. That leads me to believe it wouldn't have been the right house, although it's very disappointing, as it was one hell of an awesome place. It's good, though, that it was taken away, as I would have pushed for it really hard, probably to our detriment. Thank you Lakshmi, Grandpa and Hestia! :)
It's important to us that the home not only have room for our ever expanding family and our art studio, but also that it's a great place for having CAYA-related get-togethers. We are really looking forward to hosting meetings and parties in the years to come.
If you feel moved to light a candle or whatever you do for others, we'd appreciate it.

First of all....the altar is sweet. I can't wait until you two find the place that is meant for your family. Secondly, when you do find a house that you really really feel is the home you want, I will gladly go with you and pee in the yard. Hey, I'm diabetic, and we can produce that stuff by the gallons any time it's needed!
